Gesetze und rechtliche Regelungen
Das Strafgesetzbuch verbietet
die Tötung auf Verlangen und die Beihilfe zum Suizid. Rechtliche Betreuung und
Patientenverfügung werden von den Provinzen und Territorien geregelt. Im Juni
2013 hat die Gesundheitsministerin der Provinz Quebec einen Gesetzentwurf
vorgelegt, mit dem das medizinisch unterstützte Sterben geregelt werden soll.
Im Parlament ist die Tötung auf Verlangen und der ärztlich assistierten Suizid
seit Jahren in Diskussion.
Das Gesundheitsministerium informiert zu End-of-Life
Care, Palliative Care und der Advance Care Planning (vorausschauender Behandlungsplanung). Hier sind
auch Informationen zur Patientenverfügung zu finden.
Die Königliche Gelehrtengesellschaft hat einen Bericht über Entscheidungen am
Lebensende veröffentlicht, bei der Ärzteorganisation sind Patientenverfügung,
Sterbehilfe und assistierter Suizid Thema.
