Das Selbstbestimmungsrecht des Patienten wird aus der Verfassung abgeleitet. Im
Strafgesetzbuch sind die Tötung auf Verlangen und Beihilfe, Verleitung und
Werbung zum Suizid verboten.
Das Gesundheitsministerium hat eine Charta der Patientenrechte veröffentlicht.
Eine Darstellung der Rechtslage bezüglich der Einwilligung des Patienten ist
beim Zentrum für Medizinrecht der Universität Coimbra
zu finden. In der Berufsordnung für Ärzte geht es auch um Patientenrechte und
das Lebensende.
