In den Statuten und Gesetzbüchern der Bundesstaaten sind die gesetzlichen Regelungen zur Patientenverfügung und Vorsorgevollmacht zu finden.
In einigen Bundesstaaten der USA gibt es spezielle Gesetze zur psychiatrischen Patientenverfügung und Vorsorgevollmacht.
In manchen Bundesstaaten der USA können die Vorausverfügungen (Advance Health Care Directives) in einem Vorsorgeregister registriert werden.
